Cellar Master Sergio Martínez named Best Fortified Winemaker
Sergio Martinez receives the same title his predecessor and mentor, Manuel Lozano, earned for seven consecutive years (2009-2015)
Jerez, Spain. July 7th, 2017. Sergio Martínez, Cellar Master at the House of Lustau was named “Best Fortified Winemaker 2016” at the prestigious International Wine Challenge Awards Gala celebrated in London last night.
After more than 14 years in the House of Lustau, Sergio has led the winery’s oenological team since last summer. “I am enormously proud to be part of this team. This prize is recognition to each and every of us who work at Lustau,” he stated after receiving the award.
Last night there was also room for remembrance of Manolo Lozano, Sergio’s predecessor and mentor. “I feel so blessed for having had Manolo’s guidance in my career. He was a great teacher and an extraordinary person. Always generous, creative and visionary. Thank you, Manolo, for showing me the way! This year’s award is the crowning glory to the exceptional results obtained by the House of Lustau in the 34th edition of the International Wine Challenge. With 48 medals, including 14 Golds, the House of Lustau is the most awarded sherry producer and the most awarded European winery in the history of the International Wine Challenge.
